Book launch 2025
There will be even more rhyme and reason to attend Poetry And Pancakes in Newry Library on Thursday 21 August – which marks the official start of Iúr Cinn Fleadh.
Both budding and seasoned poets are always welcome to share their work at this popular Fleadh gathering – and this year they’ll be joined by local writers’ group the Wordsmiths.
Following the usual time of poetry and prose, the Wordsmiths will launch their anthology Harvest The Light – and aim to raise funds for suicide prevention at the same time.
This unique publication celebrates the work of 11 local writers who usually meet in Teac Mallon – a creative arts centre located at Slieve Gullion.
Harvest The Light pays homage to the unique landscape of Oriel, southeast Ulster, and the foothills of Slieve Gullion – and in particular its people.
Refreshments and music will help bring the message home at the launch. Proceeds from the sales of the book will go to two suicide prevention and support charities – PIPS and Pieta.
Contributors to Harvest The Light are – Brigid Brady, Eileen Beamish, Liz McMonagle, Mairead Breen, Marcella McBride, Matt McEvoy, Mary Cunningham, Paddy Creedon, Patrick Murray, Rosemary Tumilty and Sinead Mitchell.
Poetry And Pancakes starts at 11.30am in Newry Library on Thursday 21 August. The Harvest The Light launch follows straight after at 12.30pm.
