You’ve heard of Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova – now experience The Sweet Sorrows at Iúr Cinn Fleadh.
The Sweet Sorrows are Sammy and Kylie Horner. They formed a duo in 2012 after moving to Canada from their native Ireland and Australia. They’ve been based in County Wexford since 2016.
Sammy was the founding member of Celtic Rock combo The Electrics. He made seven albums with the band and toured extensively in Europe and the USA. In his successful solo career, he almost singlehandedly brought a new feel to spiritual music with his ground-breaking Celtic Praise series of recordings.
With more than 30 albums in his body of work, he has received critically acclaimed reviews and has a large global fanbase. He has performed at major festivals all over the world and produces other artists in both Europe and the USA.
Sammy has played bass for Buddy Miller, Julie Miller, Mitch McVicker and Glen Kaiser. He has shared stages with Motorhead, Cliff Richard, The Alarm, Therapy?, Bob Geldof, Bruce Cockburn and Martin Joseph. His songs have been covered by numerous artists.
An accomplished lead vocalist and backing vocalist in Australia, the Middle East and USA, Kylie had training in piano, flute and vocals. She has worked in modelling, voiceovers and enjoys session work both as a musician and vocalist.
An event with The Sweet Sorrows always promises to be highly entertaining, provocative and moving. Their intimacy, transparency and strength of passion on stage has won them many fans.
Sammy and Kylie are going to be working hard over the Fleadh weekend for you. They will lead an Irish folklore workshop at Newry City Library and provide music on a Trad Cruise – both on Saturday 23 August – and present a concert at Newry Methodist Church on Sunday 24 August.
