How music helps your healing

Explore the realm of music and healing – at a free workshop hosted by Noctambule’s Dr Bruce Victor and ‘The Girl With The Harp’ Niamh Noade.

Our hosts will guide us through the mystery of music as an aid to recovery. Bruce will show how this is not new thinking at all, but was actually practised as therapeutic treatment in ancient Greece.

Niamh, who comes from County Armagh, has already stirred hearts with her harp since reaching the finals of The Voice Kids. The programme’s judges were visibly moved by her performance. She has also played at children’s cancer charity events, and recently at Newry BID’s Summer In The City initiative. Niamh is keen to use music in a therapeutic context.

Bruce, who is based in San Francisco, is both a guitarist and a psychiatrist. He speaks on music and healing at conferences and festivals, and is part of the Royal Society of Medicine and Artsawonder. Bruce would be known to festivalgoers as part of the acoustic duo Noctambule, who have often performed at the Fleadh.

A key part of this workshop will be to invite attendees to share their own stories of how music has helped them in their healing. Come along to Newry City Library on 26 August at 11am.
