Tony Walsh hosts Poetry Session for 8-12 Year olds and their families

Manchester poet Tony Walsh is the son of a Cavan man and his performances are always a big hit with audiences around Ireland earning standing ovations in both Belfast and Dublin.
The poet  makes his first appearance in Newry as part of Iúr Cinn Fleadh on Saturday 7 September in  a free event at The Event Space, Marcus Square, Hill Street from 3 – 4 pm
As hilarious as he is thought-provoking, expect silly, funny and inspiring poems for children of all ages and their families.
 A regular on tv and radio and a passionate educator, Tony’s acclaimed workshops have delighted teachers and inspired children of all ages from Keswick to Kazakhstan and from Torquay to Turkey. Having been invited by the BBC to write the official poem to mark the 60th anniversary of Blue Peter, Tony’s subsequent “astounding” performance earned a standing ovation at the 2018 Children’s BAFTA awards ceremony.

Gerry O’ Connor The Rose In The Gap – Dance Music of Oriel From The Donnellan Collection

For it’s final concert of 2019 Iúr Cinn Fleadh is hosting a very special concert and lecture from acclaimed fiddle player, Gerry O’Connor. 

The concert takes place on Sunday 8 September at 7.30pm in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry, Admission £12.50.

Gerry from Ravensdale, Dundalk will present the concert based on a recent publication of traditional Instrumental music from the South East Ulster area “The Rose in the Gap”

Fleadh presents all-star comedy show

Four of Ireland’s most enduring comedy acts are teaming up in a tour de force to open Newry’s annual Iúr Cinn Fleadh with a smile. George Jones, May McFettridge, Jimmy Cricket and Gene Fitzpatrick will present You Must Be Joking at Newry Town Hall on 5th September.
George Jones is said to be one of Northern Ireland’s most accomplished all-round entertainers. He is a TV and radio presenter, comedian, musician, singer and after dinner speaker. George began his career as a member of the Monarchs – which included his boyhood friend Van Morrison. Kilfenora Céilí Band Iúr Cinn Fleadh Bound

It’s another first for Iúr Cinn Fleadh. Hot on the heels of Paul Brady being booked for Newry’s own citywide festival, yet another living legend of Irish music has confirmed their concert for the Fleadh weekend – the Kilfenora Céilí band!

This will be the first concert in the North for the band, who continue to break new ground with their innovative recordings, artistic collaborations, repertoire and concert presentations.
