Family fun from performers to pirates

Children and their families are most welcome at Iúr Cinn Fleadh – which offers everything from performing to pirateering.

As usual, please check here on the official Fleadh website for the latest event listing, but here’s a taster of what’s lined up for families who like fun stuff:

Children’s music workshop – bodhran lesson at Newry Baptist Centre

Your kids can learn how to play the bodhrán at Newry Baptist Centre in Lower Catherine Street. Just for primary schoolchildren, there are strictly 12 places – so booking is essential. Phone Newry Baptist Church on 07869863016. Friday 25 August 2-3pm.

Pirates of the ‘Carnbane’ II – Brian Boru at the Albert Basin

Set sail with Sticky Fingers’ Pirates of the ‘Carnbane’ for a magical adventure on a boat. Come along and make your very own boat in this family-style arts and craft workshop – or design your own pirate’s hat. Suitable for age three and over. Saturday 26 August 10am-1.30pm.

Mrs Seaweed’s Storytime Adventures – Brian Boru at the Albert Basin

Join Sticky Fingers’ Mrs Seaweed for Storytime Adventure featuring many tales of the sea. From chasing the whale’s tail to having tea with mermaids, this family session is a perfect Sunday morning treat. Suitable for all ages. Sunday 27 August 11am-1pm.

And that’s not all, folks! Look out for the Water Festival – Saturday 26 August at Albert Basin, with water and land-based activities. No need to book, just turn up on the day. There are also the Fleadh community events like Dancing On The Greens – Sunday 2-8pm at various locations – and of course, the yummy spectacular Street Feast that you and your kids will love.
