Fleadh welcomes new folk club

Newry’s music festival Iúr Cinn Fleadh has finished for another year. The committee will hibernate for a couple of weeks (only a couple?) – then get back to finding funding for next year’s festival.

Dates have been announced for 22-26 August 2024. Please put them in your diary. There have been so many positive comments about this year’s event, you won’t want to miss out on the next one.

Meanwhile, to keep the good Fleadh feelings going, why not nip down to Newry Shamrocks at Páirc Esler on 16 September – for the launch of their new folk club?

The opening gig at Shamrocks Folk Club will feature the highly talented Daoirí Farrell Trio, local hero Pearse Larkin – and all topped off nicely with an open session.

Singer and bouzouki player Daoirí is described by some of the biggest names in Irish folk music as one of most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years. BBC folk music guru Mark Radcliffe described him as ‘effortless, instinctive, natural…the real deal’. Tickets are available from eventbrite.
